Be the lifeline for Dr. Shadi Awad’s Family
United States
My name is Dr. Shadi Awad from Gaza, Palestine. I’m a doctor. I was the Head of Respiratory Care at Al-Shifa hospital. I am writing this after lots of thoughts and hesitation. But the urgency and need to rescue my family is greater than my resilience. I am desperately seeking your generous support to help me keep my children and family alive.
I worked in Al-Shifa Hospital as an emergency doctor and I was among the last ones to evacuate it. I’ve been volunteering in the different remaining hospitals since then in Khan Yunis and at Rafah before the mandatory displacements.
On October 7, the escalation of hostilities and subsequent Israeli military directives forced my family and me into multiple relocations, resulting in the loss of our home and displacement from the north to the south of Gaza. Each move has been marked by life-threatening experiences and heart-wrenching losses in our community.
Our once peaceful home has been reduced to rubble, taking away not only our shelter but also the cherished possessions and memories we held dear, including those of our. The loss is immeasurable, and the daily struggle for survival has become increasingly difficult for nearly 2 years.
My neighborhood after October 7:
My home now:
We are desperately seeking financial assistance to meet basic needs. Prices are very high in the remaining markets, as food and necessities are extremely difficult to obtain with no work or source of income.
I am reaching out to you, dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers, to ask for your support in being our lifeline.
This campagin will be used to support:
Your support, no matter the amount, can make a significant difference in helping us escape the cycle of violence and uncertainty. By contributing to this campaign, you are providing a lifeline for my family to rebuild, heal, and start anew.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering our plea. Your kindness and generosity will make a profound difference in our lives.
120 people from my family were killed in a number of rockets fired at a six-story house, including my sister and her children.
We still suffer a lot from the lack of possibilities for a place to live. My six children and the family still suffer from a lack of food and drink. There are few resources for food and drink. Fear and extermination against children is very great. Fear is the master of the situation. We are still in tents. My children are still deprived and homeless. Please donate for my children in order to get out of Gaza.

——— Hi,
This is the organizer, Rocio. I’ve known Dr. Shadi since April of 2024. He is one of the very first people I’ve met in Gaza and have had the true honor to know. Dr. Shadi has been resilient for his family, through immense loss- losing 120+ family members, his recent loss of his father, witnessing the siege at Al-Shifa in 2024, and the destruction of his home.
Through it all – what stays true is his love for his family. Ensuring that their needs are met, even when circumstances are dire.
I’d like to also highlight Dr. Shady’s beautiful eye for photography. He has the most beautiful photos posted on his Instagram page.
He has been featured in The Washington Post and New York magazine for his work during Covid. He he was on the frontlines as Chief of Respiratory Care at Al-Shifa.
